Happy to be a Caliber Author!

BY GARY SCOTT BEATTY, AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR, AT THE GARY SCOTT BEATTY'S STRANGE HORROR BLOG

I've been gabbing a lot lately about my free webcomic online and my last three Strange Horror books. You may not know my publisher has three more of my books you can get from Amazon!

Music and history fans like "Jazz: Midnight." Crime, love story and sci fi readers enjoy "Worlds: Three Stories by Gary Scott Beatty." Horror adventure fans may like "Wounds," although I'll explain below why they may not!

Caliber Comics. In the early '90s I read a lot of Caliber Comics. Publisher Gary Reed had a way of picking the most interesting books to add to his line. I met several lifelong comic pro friends hanging out at the Caliber booth at comic conventions. Many of them went on to work for that dark, trippy imprint of DC comics: Vertigo.

Before he died in 2016, Gary contacted me to print three books of mine through Caliber. It's one of the most career confirming things that ever happened for me. I knew Gary, and Gary published only the best.

Below are those three graphic novels.

"Jazz: Midnight." Art inspired by ’50s album cover design. Stories about people who live music.

Jazz piano man Dean Fontessa is in five standalone stories on a central theme that come together with a twist -- like a masterful, cool jazz solo! My illustration style drops readers into the late night music clubs of 1957.

“A fantastic blend of art and text.” -- Paul Bishop, Bish’s Beat

"Worlds: Three Stories by Gary Scott Beatty." Includes the vampire romance "Seductions" (with Bill Bryan), sci-fi story "Adam Among the Gods" (with James Lyle) and Xeric winner "Jazz: Cool Birth," a full color murder mystery in my jazz series of stories.

A 96 page collection of three stories and my early writing, with unpublished art, in-depth articles, art gallery and more.

“Totally unpredictable story. Great work! 5 out of 5 stars.” -- Quazipseudo, Syndicated Zine Reviews

Then there is "Wounds," written and drawn by me.

Is madness a way to survive the zombie apocalypse? "Wounds" is a father’s attempt to save his family. Or -- something else! If you enjoy that “What th-?” factor in graphic novels, you’ll enjoy "Wounds."

If you are more of a "I don't want to think about this too much, just have zombies" kind of reader, this may not be your thing. It will be, without a doubt, the strangest zombie apocalypse story you've ever read.

"…Gary Beatty’s stories and the art are always intriguing, compelling and stretching the expectations of his chosen genre." -- Tom Arvis, Sureshot Comics

Post-Halloween I tend to slip into the sentimental. I want you to know I wouldn't be anywhere in publishing without you, my reader. I always -- always -- appreciate your attention. I have something to say, and it's fantastic to have someone listening.

The holidays can be stressful! Be sure to allow time to kick back and enjoy them. Stay in touch with loved ones, I’ll be talking with you soon!
