Unraveling the Knots of Senior Care: Your Trusted Guide to Making the Right Choices
BY JODI M. CLOCK, CCA, CPLP, AUTHOR, IT'S COMPLICATED!
Many years ago, when it was discovered that my son’s grandmother was covering for her husband’s early onset Althamer’s diagnosis, and had been for quite some time, it threw the entire family into whirlwind of questions.
• How could any of us have not noticed?
• Do we need any form of in-home help or care?
• What is the long-term outlook for his care?
• Where the heck do we start and in what priority?
• Is it proper legal documents, assessing overall finances, their health and safety? (Any of you ever experienced this?)
When my head hit the pillow at night, I would lie awake obsessing about him driving, him getting lost while walking the dog, forgetting to turn off the stove. Not only did I feel lost in a maze of senior care options, but with each choice we made, instead of feeling relieved, we felt confused as if we were forgetting something.
