Don't Miss This Thrilling, Free, 66 Chapter Story
BY GARY SCOTT BEATTY, AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR, BLOGGING ON SUBSTACK
What if we humans aren't all that special? What if, in the grand scheme of the universe, we're powerless bystanders? What if the only reason we haven't been forced into servitude is we haven't yet been worth conquering?
This is the premise of Gods of Aazurn, a novel length thriller (not for kids). beginning April 23 in weekly chapters on my free blog. Subscribe now to get in at the beginning and get a free comic at signup.

They are frightful and dark, and their subjects despair. So far, the Gods of Aazurn have not cared about Earth, even enough to reach down a mighty hand to be cruel.
That's about to change.
Influences
In my youth I consumed classic science fiction from the '50s and '60s, a golden age of authors like Bradbury and Asimov, full of logic and bright future.
It was only after I discovered H.P. Lovecraft I became fascinated with writers from Weird Tales, the odd pulp magazine that, in the '20s and '30s, gave us Robert E. Howard's Conan and writers like Psycho's Robert Bloch.
Lovecraft's writing style, using ancient sentence construction, was captivating. What effected me was the overall theme he used to great effect: something is coming we will have no control over.
It's a concept even more terrifying today, when people tend to become loud and unruly when they don't get what they want!
In Lovecraft's tales that catastrophe lurking in the shadows was a heartbeat in the future. In Gods of Aazurn that cataclysm arrives.
Once I began writing these Gods of Aazurn scripts the ideas flowed freely. I twisted stories and concepts from myths and legends from around the world. Stories of ancient, monstrous gods and their downtrodden minions took over my thoughts and even transformed my art style.
I decided to take the leap into a weekly strip. I've always admired comic strip artists, whose staggering story output in newspapers should be regarded with wonder by anyone, but especially us indie guys who often spend a year (or two, or three) producing a single book.
The story begins on my blog April 23, optimized for your phone. Eye candy, story, video and updates about my passion projects are also yours when you subscribe for free. I'm currently fulfilling orders from my last 80-page graphic novel and creating art and story for the next one.

I hope you will be a part of this story and let me know what you think when chapters begin April 23!
We think we’re so dominant, despoiling our little blue planet and warring with each other over slight provocations. What if we aren’t that big a deal? Who knows? Maybe I'll find others who are being kept awake by visions of vicious, cosmic beasts slowly turning their fanged heads in our direction.
