Stay Warm in December with Hackley Public Library Events for All Ages

As yuletide approaches, your library offers activities to beat the cold, like storytime, LEGO coding, bingo, and crafts. Be inspired to write or take a tour of the historic building. Explore an Icelandic tradition and shop for gift books. It's all here at Hackley Public Library.

Join us at Hackley Public Library for Storytime! During this fun program we’ll enjoy themed stories, songs, movement activities, interactive apps, and a craft! Don’t miss Storytime in December at HPL, happening from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on certain Thursdays (December 5, 12, and 19). Storytime is best for ages zero to five with a caregiver, and is free to the public!

Explore LEGOs and coding during WeDo Mondays at Hackley Public Library! While we have fun with these special kits, instructors will be on hand to teach the group and guide individual learning. WeDo Mondays is free to the public, and best for ages seven through 14. This program will occur from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, December 9 at Hackley Library.

B9! I13! N5! G23! O6! Bingo! Come to Hackley Library to play Bingo, meet new people, and snag some awesome prizes. Snacks will be included as well as amusing commentary from your friendly librarians Lydia and Analiese. Don’t miss Bingo at the Library on Tuesday, December 10 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Free to the public and great for all ages to enjoy!

Do you enjoy creative writing? Are you inspired by innovative thoughts and ideas? Become part of Left to Write, HPL's own Creative Writing Group! Here you participate in exercises, share your own stories and meet other creative writers. This group will provide a low key atmosphere for writers of all experiences. Everyone is welcome, so feel free to tell your friends. Remember to bring paper and your favorite pen. Don’t miss Left to Write from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11 at Hackley Public Library.

Dive into history and learn details about Hackley Public Library during an After-Hours Guided Tour on Thursday, December 12! Visitors are asked to arrive at 4:45 p.m. to gather in HPL's lower level meeting rooms, and the tours will begin at 5:00 p.m. Please park in the rear parking lot as the front doors will be locked. Tours will be approximately one hour. These tours are free and open to the public. Visit with us at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 12 for an After-Hours Tour! Inspired by Iceland’s tradition of giving and reading books on Christmas Eve, stop into Hackley Public Library for the Yule Book Event, where you can buy a few gifts, listen to holiday music, and make a hot cocoa reindeer craft to enjoy at home! Our Friends of Hackley Library will have a fantastic selection of books for sale, for both adults and children. This festive occasion will be on Saturday, December 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Hackley Library, and is free to the public! All ages are recommended to come and enjoy.

Looking for a quiet and fun afternoon? Visit Hackley Public Library on Saturday, December 21 for Holiday Crafts! Drop-in any time after 2:00 p.m. for holiday-themed crafts, perfect for a few last-minute decorations or gifts. This program is free to the public and recommended for all ages. Don’t miss your change to have fun with Holiday Crafts, from 2:00 to 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 21 at Hackley Library.

The Hackley Public Library will be closed for the holidays December 24 and 25, and closed December 31, 2019 and January 1, 2020. Come by to visit any time. We're looking forward to a great new year at Hackley Public Library.

Founded in 1890, the Hackley Public Library is located in downtown Muskegon. Hackley Public Library's Main Building is located at 316 W. Webster Ave, and is open noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Hackley Public Library's Local History and Genealogy in the Torrent House is located at 315 W. Webster Ave, and is open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Hackley Public Library will be closed for the holidays December 24 and 25, and closed December 31, 2019 and January 1, 2020.
