Respite Care Benefits Both Seniors and Caregivers

What is "respite?" The dictionary defines respite as “A short period of rest or relief from something difficult…”

When you are a caregiver for a senior loved one, both can benefit from respite care in an assisted living community. Respite allows you and your loved one to enjoy a short-term stay at a senior living community while the caregiver goes on vacation, recovers from an illness or takes a break from the around the clock demands of caregiving.

What Types of Services are Included in Respite Care? From medication management to support with personal care needs, a respite stay provides seniors with the support they need when you can’t be there to help.

Most senior living communities, like Seminole Shores Assisted Living, have private rooms for respite guests to enjoy. Respite guests will have access to the same services and amenities that a long term resident of the community does.

In addition to support with personal care, a respite stay in most senior living communities includes:

• Three well-balanced meals each day served restaurant style in the dining room.

• A wide variety of life enrichment and wellness activities to participate in with other residents.

• Supportive services such as housekeeping, laundry and transportation.

Families who are considering a short-term respite stay for a senior loved one are encouraged to visit in person. Being familiar with the staff and the community will help to decrease any anxiety about a respite.

Residents at Seminole Shores Assisted Living, Norton Shores’ premier, family-owned senior living community, enjoy the highest-quality care and comfort.

As unpredictable weather approaches, ask us about a short-term winter respite stay. With no minimum stay required and affordable daily rates, you will worry-no-more about the cold, isolating winter, icy sidewalks or navigating snowy roads. Stop in for a visit or call (231) 780-2944.
