Fall: Time to Wrap Up Home Projects

BY CAROL BEATTY, DECORATOR AND WINDOW TREATMENT SPECIALIST, QUIGLEY DRAPERIES

Fall! The crisp air, the beautiful changing trees, time to enjoy inside time. And, yes, it's time to wrap up those interior projects. One of those projects could very well be to do something about those unfinished window treatments.

So what is the big hold up?

I understand summer is too busy, with all of the demands of company, events and family. But fall can slow down a little and allow time and attention to attend to home projects now, before the holidays.

Project #1: Finish the living room windows. Now that it is getting darker earlier, staring at glass at night can seem cold and bleak. Even if you have a challenging window, such as a single or double arch, there are beautiful shades to handle it.

Duette Architella and Honeycomb shades are available in arch or 1/4 arch designs. Taller windows below the arch could have PowerView or UltraGlide controls. Lower windows could have LiteRise cordless with top down/bottom up feature for more light control.

Lots of texture choices could be available for a more touchable look. Adding the fabric shades can also make the room quieter. In winter they can also help with heat loss and in the summer with heat gain. Having a comfortable and beautiful room is so important to truly enjoying your home.

Or maybe you already have shades you like, but the room still seems unfinished. Then the addition of some high mount drapery panels could add drama, color and coziness. Pulling in the colors of the furniture or walls into the soft window fashions could help. Adding a decorative layer of panels with fullness at the sides of the windows can help add that finished look to your living room, especially if the windows are tall or wide.

Then the color could be repeated in decorative hardware, valences or other finishing room accessories.

Or maybe your windows only need a minimal look. Possibly designer roller shades or Sonette cellular shades would work -- there when you want them and gone when you don't.

Window treatments are much easier when you can delegate the design details to trusted professionals. Many jobs need careful specification management for best results. An eye for design is crucial. Always listening to you and interacting with you is at the top of the list here at Quigley Draperies. We've been helping make windows beautiful for 90 years here and are looking forward to 90 more!

Great design, fabrication, and installation of beautiful window treatments can be a joy, especially after final details are all wrapped up for the busy holidays! Enjoy the fall season.
