Book Sale, Boogie Woogie Kid, Storytime and Much More at HPL in April
BY JOSEPH ZAPPACOSTA, DIRECTOR, HACKLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY
From crafts to robotics, drawing to writing, fun children activities, and The Boogie Woogie Kid, Hackley Public Library has exciting events for you in April.
Recent studies in child development have backed up the notion that reading aloud to children helps develop their reading skills long before they are able to read. Bringing your children to Storytime at the Library helps reading skills and additionally provides them with opportunities to learn to pay attention to someone other than parents, provide exposure to new stories and authors, and to foster in them the importance of public libraries. Join us for stories songs, movement activities, and a craft for children birth through five years old on Thursdays in April (4th, 11th, 18th) at 10:30 a.m.
Build your own mini landscape in a terrarium with Nancy Hartman on Monday, April 1 at 6:00 p.m. Registration is required for Hackley Crafts sessions. Please call HPL at (231) 722-8011 or visit the online calendar to register.
Put our robots through their paces during the library’s Robotics Club each Monday in April (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th). Each week we will explore all levels of coding from beginner to more advanced projects that include Ozobots, LEGO WeDo, or Sphero robots. The library will provide the equipment, you just need to bring your problem-solving skills! For children in grades four through eight.
The Seeing Your Environment Through Drawing class challenges students to use sketching as a tool to help shape their perception of the world, enhance self-awareness and guide themselves to more positive experiences. Join Corinne Roberts on Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. in this excellent experience in art therapy. No prior drawing experience needed.
Keep you feathered friends happy with this easy to assemble bird feeder. Just take a few pipe cleaners, Cheerios, and some string to hang up your masterpiece outdoors. All ages are welcome to join in the fun on Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m.
Do you enjoy creative writing? Are you inspired by innovative thoughts and ideas? Then consider becoming a part of the "Left to Write" creative writing group on the second and fourth (April 10th and 24th) Wednesday of each month starting at 3:30 p.m. Be a part of this active group; share your ideas for stories, participate in exercises and network with other creative people.
